Mount Washington - Lion Head Winter Route

The temperature on the trail and in the trees was perfect, not too cold for a base t-shirt, capilene top and bottom, fleece pants and gaiters. After some steep snow, we encountered the most difficult part of the route. A section of steep rock with hand holds that consisted of tree roots and granite. The snow, ice, dirt, and running water made this section the most challenging but fun if you like climbing. Bill, who has climbed this route in winter said that it is actually easier when there is ice because you just climb right up. After the brief climbing, we continued up the path in the snow.
