Washington - Lion Head Winter Route |
On the way down The way down was interesting too. Amazing views of Tuckerman Ravine, lots of skiers and beautiful mountain vistas. There are many reasons why I climb. Seeing a view that can only be attained through hard work and cool gear is certainly one of them. The funny part about the way down is encountering sections that you don't really remember that well. We were going down a rocky section past the Lion Head and I distinctly remember thinking "I don't remember this part being this long." Upon entering the trees, we were back on steeper snow which gave us a chance to glissade a short section through the trees. After glissading, we put on crampons and walked down to the climbing section. The descent went very well and we made it back the trail head just after 4 PM. Conclusion It was a great day on the mountain. I wish I could have taken more pictures, but I climb too slowly to take extra time with the bigger camera in my pack. Next time I think I will take a point and shoot small enough to fit next to my body. I was lucky to get a few good shots.
